It's a little late to the party and a little late in the day for me to write down just how much Stan "The Man" Lee meant to me (or how I still can't really wrap my head around him being gone), but I found a great quote from him that I think will help encapsulate what kind of a man he was, as well as a little tribute I did to him on that page that will hopefully summarize just how much he did for us all (even if we didn't realize it before).

From Crappy Ol' Me
It's still hard to believe he's really gone...It's like if someone told you "Oh, hey, we don't have a sky anymore.  It's just not there anymore."  Someone so fundamental to...well, EVERYTHING, that imagining the world without him just didn't seem possible.  I think I might still have trouble realizing he's moved on even a few days from now.

One of the few artists to be appreciated in his own lifetime and a rare entity that could understand the artistic and business side of entertainment, he touched SO MANY people with his comics, the cartoons and movies based on them and even a Japanese adaptation of old Spidey that was NOWHERE near accurate, but wound up revolutionizing what would later become Power Rangers; even when he wasn't directly involved, Mr. Lee made all of our lives better in some way or another.  He was one of the last links we had back to the Silver Age of Comics and a time when entertainment (and society as a whole) was steeped in momentous change and unpredictability.  We've truly lost not only a great man, but a window back to a time that formed the FOUNDATION of so many things we know about today.

It's a crying shame that so few people tried to be the heroes he described in this quote when he was being bled dry for heartless peoples' greed, but I'll have to take some solace in knowing that he spent his final days with his daughter.  We no longer have him, but neither do greedy people and the ravages of age.  I'd like to think that he's reunited with his wife now, and his old partners and friends like Bob Kane, Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko; as rocky as things may have gotten between them in life, I'm sure that water is all under the bridge on the other side.

Thank you for everything, Mr. Lee.  I can't imagine what the world will be like without you, but your influence on this world will never fade, whether we know it or not.

From The Man Himself
Stan Lee - Excelsior by Euderion

This quote was brought to me (in such simple, but elegant fashion) by Euderion, who has his own wonderful breakdown on Mr. Lee's legacy.

Hello everyone!

You've probably heard me plugging TAGQcomic before, the account :devmaidenchynna: and I use to make our fantasy comic.  We've been on dA for a while, but haven't had much to show...until now!

Intercardinal, our fantasy comic mixing European and Chinese fantasy and legends has finally infected hit the internet and is ready to read!

You can find new pages posted to TAGQCOMIC.COM every Saturday, or you can find episodes posted to WEBTOONS.COM when we properly format the pages for it!  If you hit us up on Webtoons, be sure to give us a follow and a good rating, as we're currently in a contest on that site!

When we get the pages formatted, it's also WEBTOONS.COM!

Hey,

I'm a socially-aloof person and never look outside my own window, but I heard about the Net Neutrality vote tomorrow (it was actually hard not to hear about it).  If you don't know what that is, the US government is going to vote on whether or not to keep a set of legal protections that prevent Internet Service Providers from policing every aspect of the internet; without Net Neutrality, Internet Service Providers could charge companies absurd amounts of money to get decent speeds, lock our favorite content behind paywalls or even outright censor whatever they want.  The internet is expensive enough without having to pay for the "luxury" of reading our emails and 50% of the people I know anymore are internet friends, so I don't think we should let the ISP's take even more control from us.  If you're an American (the vote only seems to be in America) and you have some time, check out Battle for the Net to see how you can contact Congress about saving Net Neutrality and find out more about it than I can tell you here.

I know this is a busy time of year for everyone, but it sounds like the FCC and ISP's scheduled this vote to happen on the 14th because people would be too busy to notice and care, so don't give them the satisfaction of being right.  If nothing else, just consider how much it sucks when a storm takes out your internet...but now that storm is forever.  If you get in touch with anyone in Congress and you need some talking points, I wrote up a bunch of my own; hopefully they can help you.

Education Disparity

Money and where you live already create wide gaps in what schools can afford to teach and who is likely to go to those schools in the first place, to say nothing of the expensive hurtles of college.  Sometimes, fast and easy access to the internet is the only source of information people can get and institutions like Phoenix University even prove that the internet can serve formal and professional levels of education and help people get jobs.

Jobs and Economy

Most businesses started in America these days are small and internet-exclusive.  They can afford to produce and sell their products because they don't need to worry about getting their products into physical stores or buying airtime on television.  Thanks to reliable and equal internet accessibility, they can afford to sell their products to the masses, which keeps themselves and their employees afloat and gives them money to spend on other goods and services, contributing to the wider economy.  Bigger businesses like EA, Rock Star and Blizzard also depend on strong internet connections to make their products viable to their demographics; their continued success means countless jobs for people ranging from tech support to server management to the higher and more lucrative jobs that are only possible when a huge company can thrive.  America's only reliable export these days is entertainment and entertainment LIVES AND DIES on internet connectivity.

Art and Culture

Comic books have started to tackle issues and the human condition in ways never before imagined, news distributors can cover more stories and in more detail than ever before and artists are able to create literary and visual works that rival the quality of centuries-old classics.  All of this is possible, in large part, to the fact that art and media have fully embraced the internet and can circumvent mainstream sensibilities to deliver stories (both fictional and real) without having to worry about getting shut down or not having any mainstream outlets to host them.  In addition to new works, the religions and philosophies of old are alive and thriving online, thanks to video-hosting sites' abilities to share documentaries, history courses and lectures on every religion, philosophy and lifestyle that our species has known throughout its existence.  Without equal and reliable internet access, we will lose our connection to all of these ideas, new and old.

Humanitarianism

Sites like GoFundMe make it possible for us to reach out and support people we've never met before and likely never will.  Charities for survivors of natural disasters, campaigns for disease awareness and even small causes like pet adoption thrive and spread on social media.  When sites need to start worrying about extra costs and getting hidden behind paywalls for decent speeds, we will miss out on many opportunities to help our fellow man and make our world a better, safer place to live in.

Retaliation and Enforcement

With groups like Anonymous that are fighting for cyber equality and are more than savvy enough to break through any obstacle (government or otherwise) that gets in their way, to say nothing of today's youth being more aware and active than previous generations, it stands to reason that unpopular legislation like ending Net Neutrality will be impossible to enforce.  Trying to impose suffocating control over the internet will likely prove just as costly and ineffective as Prohibition.

Sorry to be a bummer and talk about real-world issues for once, but this is something that affects us all and prevents countries like America from becoming downtrodden prisons like North Korea.  If you have the time today, please try to get in touch with Congress, or at least spread the word.  Again, BattlefortheNet.com has more information and banners you can use to spread the word.

Hey Howdy,

Maiden-Chynna and I ouldn't let July end without getting one more post in for TAGQComic.com, not even a little bit.

If you head over to the Eurasia Gallery TAGQComic.com, you'll notice that not only do we have a new post from Chairman Mao Chynna, but we even have a little comic drawn by me, God-Emperor Sean!  You'll notice my art isn't as good quite like Chynna's, but it still shows off Gavin and Ai being, well, Gavin and Ai.  At the end of the day, isn't that all that really matters?

While I've got you on the horn, I'll let you in on another secret, a little business buzz, some insider trading (without the jail time).  Chynna has been amassing an army of doodles for some time that we're finally ready, willing and Gable to share with the world!  Starting next Wednesday, we'll be posting a new doodle/sketch/proof of beauty in the world onto TAGQComic.com.  Posts will come once a week and stop when The Beat stops and, as we all know, The Beat goes on and The beat Goes on...Th-that means we're going to continue posting new pictures indefinitely.

While we will continue posting our art to dA via TAGQcomic, that gallery will always be just a little bit behind TAGQComic.com's.  Shameless?  Manipulative?  Technically a pyramid scheme?  Yes, those are all true of us but, that's advertising for you.

Hello, everyone!

A little while ago, I asked anyone who was willing to look over some character designs for a comic that Maiden-Chynna and I were working on.  Well, all of your feedback (and Chynna's unnatural ability to draw oodles of pictures) have paid off!  You can find the very first artwork of our new comic on our specially-designated dA account!

What's the account's name? TAGQcomic.

Did you like that line?  I had to stay up all night thinking of it...You didn't like it, did you?

Um...Anyway, our new comic has the working title of Eurasia and it's about a knight and his adopted monk taking on missions from their Guild to protect the world from monsters, forces and legends from Medieval Europe and Ancient China.  We're talking ogres, goblins, vampires, lycanthropes, ghosts, jiangshi, zhen, demons and dragons from both sides of the board and whatever else our depraved minds feel like throwing at two well-meaning saps heroes.  If you're a fan of mythology and folklore, or just a fan of any fantasy you can find, I think you'll definitely like the monsters we dig up.  We do painstaking research on them to find out how they should look, fight and what kind of themes factor into their stories.  We also improvise a lot in these stories so that nothing ever feels like we copied it from Wikipedia, but it should definitely be a blast for any myth and folklore buffs out there.

Now that we know there's monsters aplenty, who's gonna be fighting them?

Gavin and Ai: Fighters of Rude People by TAGQcomic
THESE GUYS!

Sir Gavin is a member of The Guild, a highly-organized and spread-out group that takes requests from all over The Highlands and dispatches heroes to deal with them.  Gavin is a long-time member and highly trained and experienced in battle with just about every weapon you've ever seen a knight wield (and a few you haven't) and uses these skills and arsenal to help his fellow man...Though, for some reason, he's much more interested in books and penmanship techniques.  Like, doesn't he know he's a super-cool knight?  Why isn't he looting the caves of Tamrael and picking up chicks?  What is he, a nerd!?  NEEEEEEEEERD!

Ai is a survivor of the Bodhimonda Monastery.  She was stranded and living alone in The Highlands, far from her native Lung Kwok, until she was found by Gavin and taken under his wing.  Although not entirely used to Western culture and living, Ai enthusiastically uses her martial arts training to help Gavin in battle and shares her disturbing thorough knowledge of hand-to-hand fighting with anyone who will listen...or anyone who doesn't want to listen.  Really, she's like a kid who just started playing Pokemon; the only way to end the ceaseless chattering is to shove soap into her mouth or cut your ears off...or both, just to be safe...That's how parenting works, right?

Those of you who know my character Asuka (and especially those of you who started watching me because of Asuka) might take a liking to Ai, as she's essentially a human and trademark-friendly version of her.

We just started posting doodles and concept art for Eurasia onto our dA profile and our accounts on Instagram, Tumblr, Pinterest and Facebook; all of those usernames are TAGQComic.  If you want to see even more content, you can visit our gallery at our own website, TAGQComic.com.  What does TAGQ stand for?  That's A Good Question...

We'll be posting even more Eurasia stuff on those sites as we continue to work on our first issue and you may even see a few of our other ideas come up along the way.  I hope you enjoyed this round of shameless advertising and that you'll enjoy what you see of Eurasia.
